Express Entry to Canada:

The program was launched in January  2015 with a vision, for  Canada to meet its future requirements in labor market in order to maintain its long term economic growth. The program was introduced to help people apply for Canadian permanent residence under three categories.

  • Federal Skilled worker: This program is eligible for the ones who are the skilled workers with some foreign experience.
  • Federal Skilled Trades: This Program is eligible for skilled workers based on being qualified in a skilled trade.
  • Canadian Experience Class: The program is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience.

Basic requirements: Basic requirements to apply for express entry program are:

  • A valid passport.
  • National Occupation Classification
  • Educational Credential Assessment Report.
  • Language test for checking English proficiency or

  • Canadian job offer letter (if you have one) Provincial nomination (if you have one)
  • Out of 1200 CRS points (Comprehensive Ranking System) a candidate needs to  receive good score.

If you score high enough on the CRS, you will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA). An ITA means you can apply for permanent residence in Canada.     

Point noted: the score required to apply for permanent residence changes for each draw. Even if you do not qualify for a specific draw, you still remain in the express entry pool for one year.

  • Pay an application fee and a Right of Permanent Residence Fee
  •  Proof of funds stating that you can support yourself and your family during the stay.
  •  Proof of no criminal record.
  •  Candidate must go through a medical examination.
  •  Candidate must have two or more years of experience.

Please note that if you have a Canadian job offer, your future employer may require providing you with an LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment).

The CRS scores are based on the following parameters:

  • Spouse and Common Law Partner
  • Skill Transferability
  • Additional Factors

These factors take into account:

  • Age
  • Work experience
  • Education qualifications
  • Language skills
  • Adaptability
  • Job offers
  • Spouse or common-law partner

How to improve CRS scores?

There are several ways by which you can increase your CRS points:

  • Receiving a provincial nomination program adds 600 points.
  • Job offer from level 0 under NOC adds 200 points. Another job offer adds 50 points.

Core Human Capital Factors and skill transferrability collectively  adds 600 Points.

This awards points for education qualifications like certificates, diplomas and degrees. The higher your educational qualification is the better CRS score you will receive.

Language skills are a great way to improve CRS scores. Better your scores in French and English test like IELTS, TEF and CELPIP the more CRS scores you will receive. Language proficiency can add an extra 150 points.

 Having more work experience can also have an impact on CRS results.

If you apply with your spouse or conjugal partner it can also help in improve your score, if you have correct work experience and educational background.

For candidates without spouse or common-law partner, there are:

  • 500 points – Core human capital factors.
  • 100 points – skill transferability factors.
  • 600 points – for additional factors (including a provincial nomination, an offer of arranged employment, study from Canada, a sibling in Canada, and French language ability).

For candidates with spouse or common-law partner, there are:

  • 460 points – core human capital factors.
  • 40 points – Core human capital factors of the spouse or common-law partner.
  • 100 points – skill transferability factors.
  • 600 points – for additional factors (including a provincial nomination, an offer of arranged employment, study from Canada, a sibling in Canada, and French language ability).
